Parry and Le Coq scoop RLF North Midlands Championship Awards
21/05/10 by Paul Bolton
Dudley Kingswinford lock Ed Parry and Whitchurch flanker Robin Le Coq took the top awards from this season's RLF North Midlands Championship.
Parry was voted Player of the Tournament for Worcestershire & Herefordshire, who beat Shropshire 16-3 in Tuesday's final.
Le Coq, a Channel Islander who also plays for Harper Adams University, was voted Shropshire's Player of the Tournament.
Le Coq was also voted Man of the Match at the final even though he finished on the losing side and his efforts this season have been rewarded with a place in the North Midlands senior squad for their County Championship Bill Beaumont Cup Division Two North match against Warwickshire at Rugby Lions tomorrow.
No Player of the Tournament award was made to Greater Birmingham by the competition organisers as they played only one match – a defeat by Worcestershire & Herefordshire. Greater Birmingham withdrew from their scheduled match against Shropshire because of difficulties in raising a team.
The RLF North Midlands Championship is contested annually by the three Domestic Unions that comprise the North Midlands RFU and gives players from outside the National Leagues and those who do not play regular first team rugby at National Leagues level the opportunity to experience a high standard of representative rugby.
The competition was again generously sponsored by RLF (Robinson Low Francis), the national firm of construction and property consultants, who are long-time supporters of the RLF North Midlands Championship and grassroots rugby in England.
