North Midlands had to settle for a try bonus point from a 43-28 defeat by Kent at Canterbury in their Opening match in the County Championship Bill Beaumont Cup Second Division at Canterbury today.
injuries and unavailability deprived North Midlands of 27 players who had indicated they were available for county action which meant they had to make the long trip for the South Pool match with a severely-depleted squad.
A tenacious performance by North Midlands was not enough to bring victory but two tries from Bromsgrove full-back Tom Hunt and others from Stourbridge centre Ashley Elvers and Luctonians flanker Cameron Tawfik salvaged a bonus point.
Stourbridge fly-half Rod Petty converted all of the tries.
North Midlands continue their County Championship campaign against Devon, who beat Somerset today, at Dudley Kingswinford on May 14 (3pm).
