Droitwich and Whitchurch, the two surviving North Midlands clubs in this season’s RFU Cups, have been kept apart in the Midlands semi-finals of the RFU Intermediate Cup.
Droitwich, who were beaten finalists in last season’s RFU Senior Vase, are within three matches of a reappearance at Twickenham following a 34-10 win over Crewe & Nantwich in the fourth round of the Intermediate Cup last week.
Droitwich will now face a trip to Staffordshire to play Leek in the Midlands semi-finals on January 20 while Whitchurch host Newark.
Whitchurch beat Coalville 57-12 while Newark, who were beaten at Earlsdon in the fourth round, have been reinstated to the competition because Earlsdon fielded an ineligible player.
North Midlands interest in the RFU Senior Vase ended with fourth round defeats for Ledbury and Woodrush while Yardley & District and Church Stretton also exited the RFU Junior Vase at the same stage.
