North Midlands Under 18s Season 2006-7
The North Midlands Under 18s is the selection process used by Midlands to identify the England Under 18 Squad to play in the European Nations Cup at Easter 2007. Except for lads chosen for the RFU Conference side, which plays in the autumn, all lads born in 1989 and 1990 regardless of where the play their rugby must play for the North Midlands and Midlands if they wish to be considered by the England selectors. North Midlands Under 18s training squad is chosen from the lads who play for one of the following four counties Greater Birmingham; Herefordshire; Shropshire or Worcestershire in a series of games on Wednesday 27th September. The North Midlands training Squad will play Gloucestershire in a friendly game on Sunday 1st October from which the Squad for the three Midlands Selection Games will be chosen. The Squad will meet on Sunday 8th October to prepare for their first game against Warwickshire at home on Wednesday 11th October and for the subsequent game against Staffordshire away on Wednesday 18th October. Players in these games are watched and graded by an independent team of Midlands Selectors. The Final North Mids game is on the so called "Midlands Super Sunday" 5th November when the six Midlands CB sides (East Midlands; Leicestershire; North Midlands; Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire; Staffordshire and Warwickshire) all play at Broadstreet RFC in front of all the Midlands Selectors and coaches. Players identified by the Midlands through this process will be invited to an Assessment Day on Sunday 26th November at which the Midlands Training Squad will be selected.
