Shropshire have included three Bridgnorth players in their squad for the Iskitz Three Counties Championship final against Worcestershire & Herefordshire at Old Halesonians’ Wassell Grove ground on Sunday May 17 (3pm).
Shropshire, who are seeking a third straight win the competition which features the three Domestic Unions that comprise the North Midlands RFU, were unable to select Bridgnorth players for their two group matches while the club prepared for the RFU Intermediate Cup final.
But number eight Darren Brick, prop Adam Stirling and back row forward Tim Breakwell all come into Shropshire’s squad as they attempt to follow up victory over Worcestershire & Herefordshire at Telford two weeks ago with another victory.
But Shropshire will be missing Whitchurch flanker Jimmy Lloyd, who is on holiday, and Ludlow wing Will Sparrow who is unavailable because of work commitments.
The Iskitz Three Counties Championship will give Shropshire the chance to end a memorable season for rugby in the county that has seen four Shropshire clubs – Bridgnorth, Newport, Cleobury Mortimer and Church Stretton – win league titles.
“I suppose we will be seen as favourites but we think the Worcestershire & Herefordshire side we face will be different to the one we faced last time,” said Shropshire coach Steve Dolphin.
“There will be a few players from Worcester Wanderers in there who were not available the last time we played them so we are expecting a tough game.
“It has been a fantastic season for rugby in Shropshire and the majority of players in our squad will have only lost one or two games between them all season. So they bring a lot of confidence to the squad and there is a real buzz about Sunday’s final.”
