Church Stretton won the North Midlands Colts Cup for the first time with a thrilling 28-27 win over Hereford in today’s final at Dudley Kingswinford.
The win continued success story for Church Stretton who are North Midlands’ newest club and whose colts team was formed just three years ago.
Church Stretton also had to come from behind to claim the Stan Whitfield Cup as Hereford opened up an early 12-0 lead.
But Church Stretton rallied and led 14-12 at the break and stretched it to 28-12 after the break with two tries from centre Will Davies annd others from Brad Hughes and Will Lee.
Alex Hearle converted all the tries and his accuracy was to prove significant in a nail-biting finale.
Hereford trimmed the lead with a penalty then a converted try but another try went unconverted and Church Stretton, who lost their captain Harry Humphreys to injury early on, held on for an historic win.
Kidderminster Carolians won the North Midlands Plate by beating Camp Hill 33-0 in the final at Dudley Kingswinford.
Kidderminster were only seven points up at the break but a strong second half performance secured them further silverware to go with the North Midlands Colts League.
