North Midlands Under-18 ended their short representative season with a 24-22 win over East Midlands in today’s Super Sunday event at Broadstreet RFC.
Two tries from blindside flanker Max Hill (Worcester Sixth Form College and Worcestershire) set North Midlands on their way to victory but they had to withstand a late fightback from East Midlands before they secured their first win of the season.
East Midlands, who were 24-10 down at one stage, scored two tries but narrowly failed to convert the second which would have snatched a draw.
Hill’s first try came from the back of a driving maul but East Midlands drew level with a try from a short lineout and then took the lead with a length of the pitch attack.
North Midlands equalised just before half-time when prop Julius Hunt (Birmingham Met College and Greater Birmingham) crossed from tapped penalty move and full-back Tom Waller (Malvern College and Worcestershire) added the conversion to regain the lead.
Hill’s second try from a catch-and-drive extended the lead and number Piers Morell (Malvern College and Worcestershire) then set up the deciding try with a 50 metres burst which was well finished by wing Rhyan Scott-Young (Worcester Sixth Form College and Worcestershire).
