North Midlands began their preparations for this season’s National Under-20 Championship with a 17-14 win over Cheshire in their annual friendly at Shrewsbury today.
It was an encouraging first outing for the side after just one assessment session and a solid all-round performance against opponents who have traditionally done well in the national competition.
Charlie Grimes of Luctonians scored two of North Midlands’ three tries with Jack Ward of Veseyans getting the other.
Ollie Pearse of Harper Adams University added a conversion to keep Cheshire at bay.
