North Midlands Under-20s completed their preparations for this season’s National Under-20 Championship by coming from behind to beat Warwickshire 24-12 in their final warm-up match at Broadstreet tonight.
The match was played in three periods and it was Warwickshire who were quickest out of the blocks as they opened up a 12 points gap in the first 30 minutes.
North Midlands rallied in the second 30 minutes and pulled level with Whitchurch full-back Rob Leighton weaving over for a try which he also converted.
Telford Hornets prop Charlie Hill levelled the scores when he crashed over for an unconverted try at the end of the second period.
North Midlands took control in the final period of 20 minutes with Hill scoring his second try, which Leighton converted.
A last-gasp try from Bromsgrove wing George Grieve put the game beyond Warwickshire’s reach.
North Midlands start their National Under-20 Championship campaign against Buckinghamshire at Dudley Kingswinford on February 5 (2.15pm).
