North Midlands clubs have opposed proposals to restructure the league and cup competitions in England.
A straw poll of the 23 North Midlands clubs who attended a meeting at Bromsgrove School this week showed no support for the revised changes which will be voted on by the RFU Council at a meeting on Wednesday June 4.
The original proposals included in an Adult Competitions Review chaired by John Douglas of Surrey have now been revised.
The RFU Council will vote on the following changes:
* Level 3 – 1 league x 15 clubs no cup
* Level 4 – 3 leagues x 15 clubs no cup
* Total clubs levels 3 and 4 = 60 clubs.
* Level 5 – 8 leagues x 12 clubs + cup
* Total clubs level 5 = 96
* Level 6 – 16 leagues x 12 clubs + cup.
* Level 7 and Below as Level 6 (Mids)
Paul Kaminski, the chairman of the Midlands Leagues Organising Committee, made a presentation to the North Midlands clubs meeting at Bromsgrove School after which clubs had the opportunity to ask questions of him and Stuart Potts and Steve Guy, the two RFU Council Members for North Midlands.
North Midlands President Charlie Hemmings then asked for a show of hands which gave unanimous support to retaining the status quo.
