North Midlands Under-20s eased into the last eight of the National Under-20s Championship with a resounding 50-12 win over East Midlands at Kettering today.
A hat-trick of tries from Birmingham & Solihull wing Matt Dight swept North Midlands to a second successive 50 points win in their pool and secured a home quarter-final on the weekend of April 1 and 2.
Windy conditions meant it was not a day for kickers but that did not deter North Midlands who ran in nine tries in another impressive display of pace and power.
Stourbridge Lions full-back Owen Williams marked his debut with the opening try which was followed by a penalty from Dight who then went over for the first of his tries.
The centre pairing of Will Davies and Will Debenhams, both of Harper Adams University, then crossed in quick succession to give North Midlands a 23-5 lead at the break.
There was no respite for East Midlands in the second half as Dight scored his second try before Whitchurch wing Rob Leighton got in the act by scoring two tries himself.
East Midlands briefly halted the procession with a converted try but Dight completed his hat-trick and Williams rounded off a successful debut with his second try.
