North Midlands Under-18s number eight Jack Goodwin has been selected by England Counties Under-18s for their two matches against Ireland Under-18s Clubs and Schools in Dublin next month.
Goodwin secured his place in England’s 23-man squad for the matches against Ireland on April 24 and April 27 after he impressed playing for the Midlands in the recent Divisional Festival at Stourbridge.
Goodwin, of Hartpury College, Hereford RFC and Herefordshire, will now report for a training session in Portsmouth ahead of their departure for Dublin.
“Every year i’m incredibly impressed by the skill level on show at our national development weekend and this year was no different,” said England team manager Dave Penberthy.
“The selected players have done exceptionally well and they should all be incredibly proud of reaching this stage.
“Pulling on the white shirt at any level is a great honour and i’m sure the players are aware of that.”
Penberthy says the team will travel to Ireland with confidence following last year’s results but isn’t underestimating what he expects to be two very tough fixtures.
“We know Ireland will be very strong and so our job is to create an environment that our players can thrive in.”
