Greater Birmingham are planning to launch Touch Rugby Festivals for clubs and schools across the city starting in October.
The four team festivals will run at Under-13 and Under-13 (Years Seven and Eight) and be for mixed gender teams of six from a squad of 10 with rolling substitutions.
The clubs and schools will be involved in separate festivals but if the initiative, which is designed to encourage and increase rugby participation in Birmingham, is successful it is hoped to introduce Under-14 and Under-15 tournaments in the future.
Greater Birmingham hope that players who are currently introduced to rugby at primary school but who do not play the sport at secondary school or in clubs will retain their involvement.
Matches will be played on half of a full size pitch and be six minutes each way. Each team will play three matches each at a festival with points awarded for wins, draws and close defeats but points deducted for foul play. Fair play will be rewarded at each festival.
Further details about the Greater Birmingham Touch Rugby initiative will follow.
