Mann boosts Shropshire for Three Counties final

Defending champions Shropshire have received a boost ahead of the Three Counties Championship final against Greater Birmingham at Stourbridge’s Stourton Park on Tuesday May 13 (7.30pm).Newport utility back Toby Mann will be available to play for the county for the first time this season having missed the group match wins over Worcestershire & Herefordshire and Greater Birmingham.

Mann’s RAF commitments – he is stationed at RAF Cosford – will prevent from playing for Newport in Sunday’s North Midlands Cup final against Worcester Wanderers but he is available for the Three Counties final.

Shropshire will wait until Monday before they finalise their squad to assess the fitness of their large contingent of Newport players after the county cup final and also of seven Bridgnorth players who will be involved in the North Midlands Shield final against Stourbridge Lions on Sunday.

Darren Brick, Ryan Arnell, Will Crossley, Will Biddell, Simon Fletcher, Adam Sterling and Nick Davies were all unavailable for Shropshire’s 56-22 win over Greater Birmingham this week, a dress rehearsal for the Three Counties final.

The Three Counties Championship is contested annually by the three Domestic Unions – Worcestershire & Herefordshire are the third – that make up the North Midlands RFU and has given players from outside the National Leagues an opportunity to showcase their talent.
