Merlin back for Two Counties

Former England Under-21 back-row forward Dave Merlin will return for Worcestershire & Herefordshire in their crunch RLF Three Counties Championship match against Greater Birmingham at Birmingham Exiles’ Elmdon ground on Tuesday April 29 (7.30pm).Walsall’s Merlin, who played senior rugby for Worcester, Northampton and Blackheath, now works as a physiotherapist and was unavailable for last week’s defeat by Shropshire at Kings Norton.

Worcestershire & Herefordshire’s defeat last week means that they must beat Greater Birmingham to have any chance of progressing to the final at Stourbridge on May 13.

Greater Birmingham will play their final group match against defending champions Shropshire at Telford Hornets on May 6.

The top two teams in the group will progress to the final.

The RLF Three Counties Championship is contested annually by the three Domestic Unions that make up the North Midlands RFU and has given players from outside the National Leagues an opportunity to showcase their talent.
