There were mixed fortunes for North Midlands Under-18 Girls at Market Harborough today with a 36-31 defeat by East Midlands followed by a 19-12 victory over hosts Leicestershire.
North Midlands fought back well against East Midlands having turned around 22-5 at half-time. East Midlands went 36-5 up eight minutes into the second half before North Midlands responded with three tries in four minutes.
Worcester wing Florence Thompson crossed for an unconverted try in the first half with right wing Eleanor Beech (Telford Hornets), centre Connie Bradshaw (Worcester), openside flanker Roisin O’Brien (Worcester)and number eight Laura Thomas (Worcester) scoring the second half. Bradshaw added two conversions and scrum-half Maddie Rendell (Worcester) one.
Against Leicestershire North Midlands took an early lead with a try from full-back Deanna Clarke (Worcester) which Rendell improved but they went 12-7 down early in the second half.
A second try from Clarke, which Rendell again converted, restored the lead before Rendell crossed herself to seal the win.
North Midlands will next be in action on Sunday December 3 at Southwell where their opponents have yet to be confirmed.
