So much has happened since the last time I wrote. A degree of optimism after we came out of the first lockdown only to be replaced by a more worrying downturn in the Covid situation. A second brief respite followed by what is now looking like another lockdown on the horizon. Through it all both RFU and North Midlands RFU have done their best to keep clubs updated on the developing situation within the game.
Unfortunately, it looks like the 2020-21 rugby season is unlikely to return to anything resembling normal at grassroots level. I hope all clubs have taken advantage of the support available – both financial and in terms of advice. Many of you have worked so very hard to bring some form of the game back and a degree of activity to junior sections.
Trying hard not to be totally pessimistic. So, by contrast – there is a vaccine on the horizon which hopefully will give us the freedom to return to some sort of normality. As ever, you – our volunteers’ dedication to the ‘cause’ has been incredible. Many clubs have had significant hurdles to navigate and come through with some optimism for the future. Hopefully if we can all weather this storm, we can come through it stronger than before.
So, in whichever way you are able to celebrate the Festive Season, a heartfelt wish it is a happy one and the New Year eventually brings some positive news. I know I look forward at some point getting back to Saturday club rugby around our Constituent Body. I have very much missed it all, especially meeting all you good rugby people.
With every good wish for Christmas and the New Year
