North Midlands referee Fred Wild will be part of a team of officials involved in an attempt to break the world record for the longest continuous rugby match next month.
Wild, who is part of this season’s Shropshire Colts team, will be one of the referees officiating in the attempt at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Staium on May 4 and 5.
Two teams of army personnel and firefighters will attempt to play rugby continuously for 32 hours to establish that will be verified by the Guinness Book of Records.
The referees will officiate for between one and two hours then have a break of between two and four hours before taking charge again.
The world record attempt will also raise money for the Firefighters Charity and Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity which supports young people who have lost a parent serving with the armed services.
The referees are also Fund-raising and Wild can be sponsored by visiting: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fred-wild
