North Midlands rugby is mourning Stuart Lister a well-known former referee and a Past President of Shropshire.
Lister played for Shrewsbury and Shropshire before he retired and took up refereeing and progressed to officiating at first-class level.
After he hung up his whistle he became a hard-working volunteer both for Shrewsbury and Shropshire who recognised his contribution to rugby by making him President.
Despite illness, Stuart continued to support grassroots rugby and Charlie Hemmings, President of North Midlands, paid tribute to him.
“I got to know Stuart when I was appointed to the Shropshire Committee. He was a kind man who helped all newcomers and put them at ease. He was a traditionalist and was a fierce protector of the laws of the game.
“He served as President of Shropshire with great honour and distinction despite being diagnosed with his illness. He will be missed in Shropshire and beyond, where he forged many friendships that epitomises the grass roots game.“
