Old Swinford Hospital School will meet St Olave’s from Kent in the final of the NatWest Under-18 Bowl at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium on March 28.
Old Swinford, who reached the final of the Under-18 Cup in 2012, booked their place at Worcester by beating Woodbridge School 24-5 in their semi-final.
Despite the long trip to Suffolk, Old Swinford started well. Hooker Toby Costello touched down for the first try, off a move from a line-out, while a break by centre Benny Trimmer set up lock Sean Riley for the second. Fly-half James Westwood converted both and also added a penalty.
The second half was a close tussle and Swinford grabbed their third try through captain, Jon Baylie.
“We are a much younger team to the one that got to Twickenham in 2012, said Old Swinford director of rugby, Andy Coalter. “In this squad we have a number of Under-16 players who will be far better for playing in this competition.
“The second half saw Woodbridge come more into the game, and at times it was end-to-end stuff. It must have been an exciting game for the neutral. We defended very well but it was nervy at times.”
