Joost van der Westhuizen, the former South Africa scrum-half who has been diagnosed with a form of Motor Neurone Disease, will be appearing at a screening of the film of his life story in Telford later this month.
Van der Westhuizen was a member of the Springboks side that won the Rugby World Cup in 1995 but his life changed four years ago when he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a particularly debilitating form of MND.
He now actively campaigns for issues relating to MND through the J9 Foundation and a film ‘Glory Days’ has been made to highlight that work.
The film will be shown at Telford’s Cineworld cinema on October 16 and van der Westhuizen wil be present with his brother Pieter and Odete Schwegler, the film’s producer/director, for a question and answer session after the screening.
The cinema has allowed tickets to be sold in advance to raise funds for MND research.
The red carpet event starts at 7.45pm with the screening at 8.30pm.
Tickets cost £15 each and can be reserved by email to sarah_lannie@hotmail.com – and collected and paid for on the night by cash or cheque.
