Sadly we say farewell to an old pal who died on Saturday, aged eighty one, as a result of complications following major surgery.
Roy served our great game with distinction over many years. He was County President in 2003 to 2005 of which he was rightly proud. However the County Colts sides he developed and managed in the late eighties and nineties he considered his greatest achievement.
They reached four national finals, albeit winning only once against Gloucestershire in the National County Colts Championship at Twickenham.
He was a long time member of Bromsgrove RFC where he served on the committee and enjoyed the convivial pre-match lunches.
Roy was a substantial and generous figure. He successfully managed steel plants both here and in Germany but will mainly be remembered as a family man leaving his wife Jean and three children and many grandchildren. Son Jonathan represented the County a record number of times over a long playing career.
