The latest visit to North Midlands by a delegation from the Czech Rugby Union as part of the RFU’s Unity Project was a huge success.
A three-man delegation visited Hartpury College in Gloucestershire where they had the opportunity to work with RFU Elite Level Four Coaches and then spent a day Luctonians RFC with the National Two North club’s director of rugby Alex Davison, the new North Midlands head coach.
“They were two great days,” said Matt Elwell, the North Midlands Unity Project co-ordinator. “They heard a very interesting ‘ strip down’ of the England Rugby World Cup performance from the coaching side at Hartpury.
“Luctonians put on a great rugby day, Alex kindly agreed for Dan Benes of the Czech RU to take 25 minutes as a guest coach with the first team squad and second team.
“Stu Eades, one of the RFU Rugby Development Officers, gave quality feedback and the and the players responded really well to Dan.”
The Unity Project forms part of the legacy plans being implemented by the RFU and falls under the wider work of the IRB’s RWC 2015 rugby legacy programme, ‘IMPACT beyond 2015.’
The IRB and FIRA-AER selected the 17 countries for the RFU and its Constituent Bodies to work with over the next three years, with the project formally due to finish in June this year.
