Worcestershire & Herefordshire will make a belated start to their defence of the Iskitz Three Counties Championship when they face Shropshire at Shrewsbury’s Sundorne Castle ground tomorrow (May 3) (7.30pm).
The Two Counties were due to begin their title defence against Greater Birmingham last Wednesday, but the match was cancelled as Greater Birmingham could not raise a team.
Instead Worcestershire & Herefordshire arranged a match against a Worcester Warriors Community XV which meant that a Nigel Banwell Memorial Match went ahead as planned at Upton on Severn.
The match also gave Worcestershire & Herefordshire some useful match practise ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Shrewsbury.
Worcestershire & Herefordshire have named four newcomers – Bryn Williams, George Bennion, Ross Attwood and Harry Whiteman – among their replacements with Old Halesonians lock Jay Martin captaining the side.
The Iskitz Three Counties Championship is contested annually by the three Domestic Unions that make up North Midlands RFU.
The top two teams from the round-robin group meet in the final.
