England Rugby Development Player Pathway (ERDPP) U16’s Female

Dear Coach/Club Contact,
It gives me great pleasure to write and inform you of the new and exciting England Rugby Developing Player Pathway (ERDPP) for U16 female players next season.
The England Rugby Developing Player Programme (ERDPP) has been a feature of the boys’ rugby landscape for a number of years, but this year will see the girls benefitting from a similar programme.
Each Constituent Body (County) has been given funding by England Rugby to manage their own programme, which will run throughout the season 22/23. This will replace CB Representative rugby from previous seasons.
We believe the ERDPP will provide players with a solid foundation of rugby development and help them grow into competent and confident young women.
There will be a significant level of commitment expected from the players, however we will go to every effort to ensure there is minimal conflict with club rugby and academic studies.
Assessment date is Sunday 11h September 2022 at Five Ways Old Edwardians RFC.
Player nominations are at the discretion of the Club Coaches. There is no Self Nomination.

Would you please send a list of your nominated players no later than Friday 2nd September 2022 to moiraboot@aol.com.

To ensure the upmost safety of all players in attendance, all those participating will be expected to be competent in and around the contact area.  Should any player be deemed to be unsafe and subsequently be at risk of injury, they may be asked to sit out.
There will be a physio in attendance on the day. They will be there to treat any injuries that occur on the day. If players are carrying an injury please ensure the Team Manager is aware.. If they need any strapping please turn up with this already done.
Changing facilities and showers will be available, but please ensure players bring the appropriate clothing for all weathers as well as their own water and any energy bars or snacks that they may need before and after. Gum shields will be necessary.
Applications will only be accepted online using the registration form in the link below; Registration will close on Friday 2nd September 2022 at 6pm.

The general commitment to the programme will be:
1) One (possibly 2) assessment day.
2) Twelve training sessions throughout the season, on Wednesdays, 7pm until 8.30pm. (Dates are on the attached registration form).
3) Three playing opportunities – once a month in January, February & March 2023.
Whilst the programme is selective according to rugby ability, we will also be assessing the players’ maturity and readiness to benefit from the course contents, as well as their skill level.

There are no set criteria to define what a player must be capable of to be selected by the ERDPP, because everyone is different.

We are looking for players that make us GASP, which stands for Game sense, Attitude, Skill set and Physical potential.

We use these criteria to guide selection decisions, and if a player excels in any of these areas we will consider them for potential inclusion in the ERDPP

The most important area for us is attitude.

Below is a summary of what they all mean to us:
Game sense: awareness, decision-making, game understanding, problem solving, creative thinking, communication.

Attitude: competitiveness, work ethic, motivation, resilience, coachability, team player.

Skill set: catch, pass, ruck, tackle and position specific skills; all under pressure.

Physical potential: speed, agility, balance, co-ordination, power, strength, running fitness, robustness, flexibility and stature.

** Please note: Players MUST be affiliated to a North Midlands club by the date of the assessment**
More information about the day will follow once online registration has closed.
We are expecting a large number to attend on the day and competition to be high so it is essential for players to make every effort to attend.
** Each player MUST bring along a CURRENT passport sized photo and the following information MUST be written on the back; Name, Club, Preferred Position1 and Preferred Position 2 (Can be written as P1 and P2).**
Any queries or questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Kindest regards
Moira Boot
